Board Changes

The Board of Standard Life plc ('the Company') announces that Martin Pike has been appointed as a non-executive director of the Company with effect from 27 September 2013.

Commenting on his appointment Gerry Grimstone, Chairman of the Company said:

"I am very pleased that Martin Pike has agreed to join our Board.  With his actuarial and strategic consultancy background, he will bring deep technical knowledge and a strong practical understanding of the drivers of success in the various markets in which we operate".

At the same time as he joins the Board, Martin will be appointed as a member of the Risk and Capital Committee and the Investment Committee.

Following these changes, the Board of Standard Life plc will comprise two executive directors, eight non-executive directors and the Chairman.  Regulatory approval for Martin Pike's appointment has been obtained and no other information is required to be disclosed pursuant to paragraph LR 9.6.13R of the Listing Rules of the Financial Conduct Authority.

Director's Fee
Martin Pike's fee as a non-executive director of the Company will be £71,400 per annum.

As at the date of his appointment Martin Pike does not hold any shares in Standard Life plc.

Biographical details:
Nationality:	British
Education/Qualifications:	Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries University of  Oxford, MA Mathematics
Other Non-Executive Appointments	Martin currently holds no other non-executive roles.
Career summary:
1983 -  March 2013	Towers Watson Having joined R Watson & Sons in 1983, and progressed his career with the firm to partner level, his senior roles included Head of European Insurance and Financial Services Practice, Watson Wyatt (2006-2009), Vice-President and Global Practice Director, Insurance and Financial Services, Watson Wyatt (2009) and Managing Director, Risk Consulting & Software, EMEA, Towers Watson (2010-2013).  In recent years Towers Watson has, on occasions, provided limited consultancy support to Standard Life Assurance Limited.  When considering Martin's appointment, the Board concluded that this relationship did not impact Martin's independence.
