Board Change
The Board of Standard Life plc ('the Company') announces the following change.
Sheelagh Whittaker will retire from the Board of the Company at the conclusion of the Annual General Meeting on 14 May 2013. She has been a non-executive director of the Company since September 2009 and during that time has served as a member of the Risk and Capital, Remuneration, Nomination and Governance, and Investment Committees.
On 1 June 2013, Sheelagh will join the boards of the Company's principal Canadian subsidiaries. As an experienced Canadian non-executive Director, her knowledge of local markets and of the Standard Life Group as a whole will contribute greatly to the boards' discussions.
Commenting on Sheelagh's retirement from the Board of the Company Gerry Grimstone, Chairman, said:
"I would like to thank Sheelagh Whittaker for her valuable input to Standard Life over the last four years and I am pleased that she will be maintaining her links to the Group".
David Nish, Chairman of Standard Life Canada, commenting on Sheelagh's appointment to the Company's Canadian subsidiary boards, said:
"I look forward to continuing working with Sheelagh as we focus on implementing our strategy in the evolving market environment in Canada".
Following these changes, the Board of Standard Life plc will comprise three executive directors, seven non-executive directors and the Chairman. The Board will be made up of three women and eight men.

Biographical Details
Sheelagh Whittaker, a Canadian national, spent much of her career in senior executive positions with Electronic Data Systems ('EDS') including key leadership roles based in Canada, Asia Pacific and Europe. Prior to joining EDS she was chief executive of Canadian Satellite Communications Inc.
Sheelagh has been a non-executive director of companies worldwide including the Royal Bank of Canada and, since 1995, Imperial Oil Limited on whose board she currently chairs the corporate governance and nominations committee.
