Appointment of Director

The Board of Directors of Aberdeen Asian Smaller Companies Investment Trust PLC
is pleased to announce the appointment of Miss Haruko Fukuda OBE as a Director
of the Company with immediate effect.

Miss Fukuda, aged 56, is a member of the business advisory board of the United
Nations Office for Project Services and is a director of Foreign & Colonial
Investment Trust PLC. Miss Fukuda was, until recently, chief executive of the
World Gold Council. She was vice chairman of Nikko Europe PLC and a partner of
James Capel & Co.

Commenting on her appointment as a Director of the Company Mr Nigel Cayzer,
Chairman, said: 'We very much welcome Haruko Fukuda's appointment to the Board.
Her considerable knowledge of this area of the world will be of benefit to
Shareholders'.

Miss Fukuda currently has no beneficial interest in the shares of the Company.
