The Board of British Assets Trust PLC announces that on 24 March 2000, the
Company purchased for cancellation 5,800,000 warrants at a price of 48.50
pence each.

Following this purchase there are now 7,263,143 warrants outstanding, 9.5 per
cent of the original warrant issue.

The Company has now purchased for cancellation a total of 69,536,857 warrants,
representing 90.5 per cent of the original warrant issue.
