STANDARD LIFE EQUITY INCOME TRUST PLC ("the Company")

In accordance with the Financial Services Authority's Disclosure and Transparency Rules, the total number of ordinary shares of 25p of the Company in issue at 31 January 2012 is 37,956,153 (excluding treasury shares) with each share holding one voting right.

The above figure may be used by shareholders as the denominator for the calculations by which they will determine if they are required to notify their interest in voting rights, or a change to that interest, in the Company, under the FSA's Disclosure and Transparency Rules.

The Company also holds 1,807,328 shares in Treasury.

There are also 7,560,286 Subscription shares of 0.01 pence, with no voting rights, in issue as at the same date.
