STANDARD LIFE EQUITY INCOME TRUST PLC

("the Company")

TRANSACTION IN OWN SHARES

The Company announces that on 25 January 2017 it purchased 14,000 of its own 25p Ordinary shares at an average price of 399.17 pence per share.  These shares will be held in treasury.

Following the transaction, the Company's issued ordinary share capital is 49,162,782 Ordinary shares of 25p each (excluding treasury shares).  The number of Ordinary shares of 25p held in treasury is 15,985.

The total number of voting rights in the Company is 49,162,782 and this figure may be used by shareholders as the denominator for the calculations by which they will determine if they are required to notify their interest in, or a change to their interest in the Company, under the Disclosure and Transparency Rules.
