Contract Win with the National Trust
Active Energy is pleased to announce that it has signed a new contract with the National Trust for the provision of its electricity saving product, the VoltageMaster. The contract was secured together with Active Energy's partner, SSE Contracting, the mechanical and electrical contracting subsidiary of Scottish and Southern Energy plc.
The VoltageMaster voltage optimisation technology, which reduces energy consumption and CO₂ emissions in commercial buildings, is to be installed at Penrhyn Castle on the Menai Strait in North Wales. Penrhyn Castle is a substantial neo-Norman castle, famous for its art collection and its one-ton slate bed made for Queen Victoria. In 2009/10, Penrhyn Castle was the eleventh most visited National Trust paid-entry property, with over 231,000 visitors.
The VoltageMaster technology is expected to reduce Penrhyn Castle's consumption of electricity by at least 10% and its carbon emissions by over 25 tonnes a year.
The National Trust is Europe's largest conservation body, working to protect over 350 historic houses, gardens and ancient monuments. The installation of the VoltageMaster product at Penrhyn Castle is part of the National Trust's stated aim to reduce its use of fossil fuel energy by 50% by 2020, using energy saving and renewable energy measures. This process is being led by the National Trust's Environment Team, based in North Wales, which acts as expert consultants to support decision-making across all properties in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Active Energy is working together with the Environment Team to assess the potential for further energy savings.
Executive Chairman of Active Energy, Philip Palmer, commented,
"We are delighted that the National Trust has chosen our VoltageMaster product to help reduce its carbon footprint. This initial contract is expected to reduce Penrhyn Castle's energy consumption by at least 10%, representing a material reduction in its use of fossil fuel energy and its CO₂ emissions.
The National Trust is committed to continued improvement of environmental management and conservation across the UK and we are working with its Environment Team in order to support them further."
Property Manager for Penrhyn Castle, Martin Wynn Jones, commented,
"The collaborative approach between industry partners, Active Energy, and Penrhyn Castle to introduce leading technology, VoltageMaster, represents another win for the castle as a part of its ongoing strategy to reduce energy consumption. At the property, our dedicated team has already undertaken the comprehensive installation of new services and the planned installation of VoltageMaster has become a reality thanks to the expert advice and the efforts of our Environment Team.
The Penrhyn Castle team is extremely proud to be the first National Trust property to lead the way in achieving excellence in conservation of the environment."
