AFC Energy appoints production facility manager
New hire is the first of five new jobs at the Surrey-based clean energy technology firm
AFC Energy (AIM: AFC) has appointed Nick Yeomans to lead the management of its new fuel cell production facility, the first of five new roles being created by the leading developer of low-cost alkaline fuel cells.
Nick joins AFC with more than 20 years' experience in manufacturing. He will be responsible for ensuring that AFC's new production facility - announced in March - delivers higher volumes of alkaline fuel cells, which are used to harness hydrogen to generate clean energy, for existing and planned commercial projects.
Following Nick Yeomans' appointment, AFC is beginning a recruitment campaign to bring in at least four additional high-tech jobs including scientists and engineers as well as support staff for the production facility at Dunsfold.
Ian Williamson, AFC Energy's Chief Executive, said: "AFC is steadily stepping up its commercialisation activities which require increased production of fuel cells and cartridges. In Nick we are appointing someone with a proven pedigree in the production of fuel cells. His experience speaks for itself and we are delighted to have attracted someone of his calibre to AFC. We expect Nick's appointment to be the first of five new people joining AFC in the near future, taking our total employee count to 36."
Nick Yeomans said: "I am excited and energized by the prospect of helping AFC and their talented team set up this new production facility. The planned approach to the manufacture of fuel cells is efficient and uncomplicated, and I'm looking forward to helping ensure it is a success."

About AFC Energy
Founded in 2006, AFC Energy plc is re-engineering proven alkaline fuel cell technology to reduce the cost of electricity. Alkaline fuel cells have been used on US and Russian manned space missions for decades to provide electrical power and drinking water. By using modern materials, design tools and manufacturing processes at scale, AFC Energy is developing fuel cells that will compete with conventional technologies such as turbines for electrical power generation. Today, AFC Energy is pursuing opportunities in several sectors where hydrogen is readily available including the chlorine, clean coal and waste-to-energy industries as well as applications for distributed/back-up power. About fuel cells
A fuel cell is a device that produces electricity, heat and water by reacting a hydrogen-rich fuel with oxygen. Conventional engines and turbines combust fuel to produce mechanical energy prior to generating electricity. The direct generation of electricity allows fuel cells to be highly energy efficient. There are several different types of fuel cell, each with its own characteristic, but they are all based around a common central design. Fuel cells are increasingly being deployed for applications ranging from vehicles; domestic boilers; powering portable equipment; and large scale power stations.
