ANNOUNCEMENT ON KEY OPERATING DATA OF MAY 2016

ANNOUNCEMENT ON KEY OPERATING DATA OF MAY 2016

 

In May 2016, Air China Limited (the "Company"), and its subsidiaries (the "Group") recorded an increase in combined passenger traffic (measured by revenue passenger kilometers ("RPK")) as compared to the same period last year, but a slight decline as compared to last month. Compared to the same period last year, passenger capacity (measured by available seat kilometers ("ASK")) increased by 8.7%, while passenger traffic, increased by 7.6%. For domestic routes, passenger capacity and passenger traffic increased by 6.4% and 7.1%, respectively, as compared to the same period last year. For international routes, passenger capacity and passenger traffic increased by 14.4% and 9.9%, respectively, as compared to the same period last year. Passenger capacity and passenger traffic on regional routes decreased by 3.0% and 1.7%, respectively, as compared to the same period last year. The overall passenger load factor was 77.9%, a decline of 0.8 percentage point compared to the same period last year. The passenger load factor for domestic and regional grew by 0.5, 0.9 percentage point respectively, while the passenger load factor of international routes saw a decrease of 3.0 percentage points.

 

The Company launched a Tianjin - Weihai route (five times a week) on 3 May 2016, a Beijing - Xichang route (four times a week) on 17 May 2016, a Shenzhen - Frankfurt route (three times a week) on 20 May 2016, and a Beijing - Hami route (four times a week) on 23 May 2016.

 

In terms of cargo operations, in May 2016, both Revenue Freight Tonne Kilometres ("RFTK")) and freight tonnage carried displayed growth on a year-on-year basis and a monthly basis. Cargo capacity (measured by available freight tonne kilometers ("AFTK")) rose by 7.8% year-on-year. Cargo and mail traffic increased by 3.9% and volume of cargo and mail uplifted grew by 4.0% as compared to the same period last year. The cargo load factor was 54.8% in May 2016, representing a year-on-year decrease of 2.0 percentage points.

 

In May 2016, the Group added one B787, two B737-800 and one business jet, and retired one A320. As at the end of May 2016, the Group operated a fleet of 596 aircraft.
