Clarification Announcement and Resumption of Trading
Air China Limited ('Air China') clarifies that it was not contemplating an
acquisition of shares in China Eastern Airlines Corporation Limited ('China
Eastern').
Air China has made an application to The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited
for resumption of trading in its H Shares with effect from 9:30 a.m. on
25 September 2007.
On 22 September 2007, an article appearing in South China Morning Post
speculated that Cathay Pacific Airways Limited ('Cathay Pacific') and Air
China were teaming up to acquire shares in China Eastern.
Air China clarifies that it was not contemplating an acquisition of shares
in China Eastern. Instead, Air China's controlling shareholder, China
National Aviation Holding Company Limited ('CNAHC'), has confirmed to Air
China that CNAHC and Cathay Pacific had contemplated an acquisition of
shares in China Eastern ( the 'Possible Transaction'). CNAHC has also
informed Air China that the Possible Transaction will not now or in the
next three months proceed.
At the request of Air China, trading in the H Shares of Air China on
The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited was suspended with effect from
9:30 a.m. on 24 September 2007 pending the issue of this announcement
which may contain price-sensitive information.
The event that would have given rise to the price-sensitive information
will not now proceed. Accordingly, Air China has made an application to
The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited for the resumption of trading
in the H Shares of Air China with effect from 9:30 a.m. on
25 September 2007.
