                  Resignation of a Non-executive Director

Alkane, the UK's leading commercial producer of Coal Mine Methane ('CMM') today
announces that Adrian Beecroft has resigned as a Non-executive Director with
immediate effect. Adrian is the Chief Investment Officer of Apax Partners, and
his responsibilities are extensive and worldwide. His resignation from the
Company allows him to concentrate on his other business activities.


Dr Cameron Davies, Executive Chairman, commented: 'We are sorry to see Adrian
stand down from the Board and on behalf of the Alkane Board, I would like to
warmly thank him for his valuable contribution to the growth and development of
Alkane since its formation and wish him continuing success. The search for a
Non-executive Director to succeed Adrian is currently underway.'
