                  Notification of Major Interests in Shares

We hereby give notice pursuant to Rule 9.11 of the Listing Rules, that on 25
September 2001 Alkane received notification in accordance with Section 198 of
the Companies Act 1985, that on 24 September 2001, Energy (CG) Limited sold
20,000 ordinary shares representing 0.577% of their current holding in the
Company.

On the basis that the relevant issued share capital of the Company is 89,627,
899 ordinary shares, their remaining holding following this transaction is
3,444,901 ordinary shares, representing approximately 3.84 % of the Company's
issued share capital.

The shares are registered in the name of Energy (CG) Limited at Jubilee
Building, Victoria Street, Douglas Isle of Man.
