                  Notification of Major Interests in Shares

We hereby give notice pursuant to Rule 9.11 of the Listing Rules, that on 22
November 2001 Alkane received notification in accordance with Section 198 of
the Companies Act 1985, that on 20 November 2001, Morley Fund Management
Limited, a subsidiary of CGNU plc sold 564,683 ordinary shares representing
15.48 % of their current holding in the Company.

Following this transaction their remaining holding is 3,122,222 ordinary
shares, representing approximately 3.49 % of the Company's issued share
capital.

The registered holders to which this notification relates and the number of
shares held by those registered holders as at 20 November 2001 is as follows:
