                   Notification of Major Interests in Shares



We hereby give notice pursuant to Rule 9.11 of the Listing Rules, that on 22
March 2002, Alkane received notification in accordance with Section 198 of the
Companies Act 1985 that on 20 March 2002, Morley Fund Management Limited (a
subsidiary of CGNU plc), sold 75,000 ordinary shares of their current holding in
the Company.



Following this transaction their remaining material holding is 2,631,351
ordinary shares, representing approximately 2.94 % of the Company's issued share
capital.  Accordingly, neither Morley Fund management Limited or CGNU plc have a
notifiable interest in the Company's shares.



The registered holders to which this notification relates and the number of
shares held by those registered holders as at 20 March 2002 are as follows:
