We hereby give notice pursuant to Rule 9.11 of the Listing Rules, that on 9
January 2003, Alkane received the following notification from Tipacs Limited:

Letter to Alkane Energy plc:

Notification of Major Interest in Shares.

In accordance with Section 198-202 of the Companies Act 1985 (as amended), on
the basis that the relevant issued share capital of your company is 89,627,899
ordinary shares, we wish to advise that Tipacs Limited has a notifiable interest
in 5,995,439 shares representing 6.689%.

The acquisition of further shares since our last letter dated 30 December 2002
was made on 7 January 2003 in one deal of 1,190,000 shares.

The shares are registered in the name of Tipacs Limited at Hibiscus House, St.
Brelade's Bay, Jersey, JE3 8EA, Channel Islands.


In addition, Alkane gives notice pursuant to Rule 9.12 of the Listing Rules that
on 12 December 2002, notification was received from CTX Treuhand AG of Lova
Centre, PO Box 1150, FL-9490 Vaduz, Liechtenstein confirming that Tipacs Limited
is owned by The Little Bear Settlement, the trustees being CTX Treuhand AG.
Apart from the above mentioned investment interests, CTX Treuhand AG have
informed the Company that they have no interest in relation to Section 212(5) of
the Companies Act (as amended) during the two years preceding the date of the
Company's Section 212 notice issued on 2 December 2002.
