The Board of The Alliance Trust PLC announces the following appointments:

Mr William Henderson Jack (Bill Jack) joins the Board as a non-executive
director.

Mrs Sheila Ruckley joins the board as an executive director, assuming
responsibility for the development of investor relations services within the
organisation.

Mr. Ian Goddard succeeds Sheila Ruckley as Company Secretary.

All these appointments are effective immediately.

Bill Jack's and Sheila Ruckley's appointments fall to be approved by the
stockholders at the next AGM of the Company.
