                          APPOINTMENT OF A DIRECTOR


Alumasc, the specialist engineering and building products group, announces the
appointment of Richard Saville as a non-executive Director with effect from 1
January 2002.


Richard, aged 53, has considerable experience of the construction industry in
the U.K. and overseas as Group Finance Director of George Wimpey plc between
1994 and 2001, and in recent years played a major part in the re-shaping of
that company.  Prior to his career with Wimpey, Richard was a Director of
Phillips and Drew and Morgan Grenfell Securities, specialising in the
engineering and energy sectors.  He is also a non-executive director of
Business Post Group plc. Mr Saville held no directorship in any other publicly
quoted company during the previous five years and there are no details to be
disclosed by Mr Saville under paragraph 6.F.2 (b) to 6.F.2 (g) inclusive of
the Listing  Rules.


Welcoming Richard Saville to Alumasc, John McCall, Chairman and Chief
Executive, stated:  'Richard's experience of managing change in the
construction industry will be of great value as Alumasc seeks to build its
premium building products activities.'
