                            Retirement of a Director


Alumasc, the specialist engineering and building products group, today announces
that with effect from 31 August 2003 Mr Bill Bailie, an executive director of
Alumasc since May 1989, will retire from the Board of Directors having attained
the age of 61.


The Board of Alumasc would like to thank Mr Bailie, who will be retiring a year
early at his own request, for his contribution to the Group for the past 14
years and wish him well in his retirement.


Following Mr Bailie's retirement, his duties will be divided amongst the other
executive directors.
