                   ANGLO AMERICAN REQUISITIONS ANACONDA EGM

Anglo American plc, through its wholly owned subsidiary Anglo American
Investments (Australia) Limited, has today served formal documentation on
Anaconda Nickel Limited ('Anaconda') requisitioning a meeting of the members
of the company to consider resolutions for the removal of all directors other
than Messrs Campbell, Glasenberg, Linegar, Morrison and Stewart.

Under the Australian Corporations Law, the Anaconda board must convene a
meeting of members within 21 days after today. The meeting must be held within
2 months after today.
