RESULTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 1999

Please note that the board of directors of Anglo American plc will meet to
consider the preliminary results and final dividend recommendation for the year
ended 31 December 1999 on Tuesday 21 March 2000 and an announcement in relation
thereto will be made on Wednesday, 22 March 2000.

It is planned to mail the 1999 annual report to members on Thursday, 13 April
2000 an to hold the Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, 16 May 2000
