PDMR Interests

The Company announces that it was notified by Mr P M Baum, a PDMR of the
Company, that on 13 April he exercised 10,000 options granted to him in 2003 in
terms of the Anglo American plc Long Term Incentive Plan. Of the Anglo American
plc Ordinary shares (the "Shares") arising from this exercise, 4,000 were sold
at £27.13 per Share to cover his tax liability and, accordingly his beneficial
interest in Shares increased by 6,000.
The notification of these transactions is intended to satisfy the Company's
obligations under both the Companies Act and the Financial Services Authority
Disclosure and Transparency Rules 3.1.2 to 3.1.4
