Directors' Interests

The Company announces that it was notified on 15 February 2009 that BoE Private Clients ("BoE"), acting on behalf of Mr Fred Phaswana, a non-executive director of the Company, sold 3,591 Anglo American plc ordinary shares of US$0.54945 each (the "Shares") on 5 March 2008. In addition, BoE acquired on Mr Phaswana's behalf, eight Shares through the Company's dividend reinvestment programme on 30 September 2008.

The notification of these transactions satisfies the Company's obligations under the Financial Services Authority Disclosure Rules 3.1.2 to 3.1.4
