Anglo American PLC 25 September 2001 Notifications concerning interests in ordinary shares of US$0.50 each in the capital of Anglo American plc ('Ordinary Shares') Notifications pursuant to sections 198(1), 202(3), 202(4) and 203(3) of the Companies Act 1985 We received yesterday a notice given on behalf of the following entities pursuant to the provisions of sections 198(1), 202(3), 202(4) and 203(3) of the Companies Act 1985 ('the Act') in relation to (i) certain corrections to notifications made to us on 12 June 2001 in relation to certain transactions which completed on 8 June 2001 and a further notification under the Act ('the 8 June Transactions') and (ii) a further notification under the Act in relation to a transaction which completed on 19 September 2001 ('the 19 September Transaction'). The entities concerned are:- * Bastion Holdings Limited ('Bastion') * Capricorn Trustees Limited ('Capricorn') * Central Holdings International Limited ('CHIL') * CHL Investments SA ('CHLISA') * Central Holdings Limited SA ('CH') * Dr K-H Ritter, Maitland Trustees Limited and C Andina (the 'Trustees') * Felton Holdings Limited ('Felton') * Pradine Limited ('Pradine') * Spectre Limited ('Spectre') (i) 8 June Transactions corrections (a) We have been notified that the following matter should be corrected in relation to the 8 June Transactions. The notification in relation to the 8 June Transactions stated that, in relation to the 8 June Transactions, following the Second Transaction (as defined therein), of the Ordinary Shares in which Bastion, Capricorn, CHIL, CH, the Trustees, Pradine and Spectre had a notifiable interest, 8,945,657 were registered in the name of Masseter Limited and 1,169,891 were registered in the name of De Beers Investments (Proprietary) Limited ('DBIPL'). This notification should be corrected to state that, following the Second Transaction, of the Ordinary Shares in which Bastion, Capricorn, CHIL, CH, the Trustees, Pradine and Spectre had a notifiable interest, 8,945,656 shares were registered in the name of Capricorn Trustees Limited (holding as nominee for Masseter Limited) and 1,169,892 shares were registered in the name of DBIPL. (b) We have also been informed that Bastion, Capricorn, CHIL, CHLISA, CH, the Trustees, Pradine and Spectre acquired, as part of the 8 June Transactions, an interest in a further 18,321,987 Ordinary Shares. All of these Ordinary Shares were registered in the name of Debswana Diamond Company (Proprietary) Limited. Following that acquisition, Bastion, Capricorn, CHIL, CH, the Trustees, Pradine and Spectre continued to have a notifiable interest in 81,742,086 Ordinary Shares and CHLISA had an interest in 59,087,843 Ordinary Shares. (ii) 19 September Transaction As a result of the 19 September Transaction, we have been notified that 1,169,182 Ordinary Shares previously registered in the name of DBIPL have been registered in the name of Felton Holdings Limited. Following this transaction, Bastion, Capricorn, CHIL, CH, the Trustees, Pradine and Spectre continued to have a notifiable interest in 81,742,086 Ordinary Shares and CHLISA continued to have an interest in 59,087,843 Ordinary Shares. Notification of a change in interest pursuant to section 324(2) of the Companies Act 1985 We received yesterday a notice given on behalf of Nicholas F Oppenheimer pursuant to section 324(2) of the Companies Act 1985 in relation to his becoming interested in an additional 18,321,987 Ordinary Shares resulting from the further notification of 8 June 2001 set out in (i)(b) above. Subsequent to the aforementioned notification Nicholas F Oppenheimer has the following interests in Ordinary Shares: Non-beneficial * Mr Oppenheimer has an interest in 1,395,136 Ordinary Shares as a trustee of a charitable trust Beneficial * Mr Oppenheimer has an interest in discretionary trusts that have an indirect economic interest in 84.51 per cent. of 81,742,086 Ordinary Shares, by virtue of his being a potential discretionary beneficiary of trusts which are interested in Ordinary Shares in which CH has an interest. * Mr Oppenheimer has an interest in 26,000 Ordinary Shares which arises as a result of his wife's interest in a trust which has an indirect economic interest in 33.33 per cent. of those Ordinary Shares. * Mr Oppenheimer also has an interest in 92 Ordinary Shares registered in his own name. Voluntary notification of a change in interest We also received yesterday a voluntary notification given on behalf of Julian Ogilvie Thompson. Previously, he had given notice voluntarily of an interest in a discretionary family trust which owns an indirect economic interest in 4.59 per cent of the Ordinary Shares in which CH has an interest. As explained in (i)(b) above, CH became interested in an additional 18,321,987 Ordinary Shares, following which it has a continuing interest in a total of 81,742,086 Ordinary Shares. Mr Ogilvie Thompson's interest in the Ordinary Shares in which CH has an interest is not an interest of which he is obliged to give notice to the Company.
