NOTIFICATIONS CONCERNING INTERESTS IN ORDINARY SHARES OF US$0.50 EACH IN THE
CAPITAL OF ANGLO AMERICAN PLC ('ORDINARY SHARES')

Notifications pursuant to sections 198(1) and 202(4) of the Companies Act 1985

We received yesterday a notice given on behalf of the following entities
pursuant to the provisions of sections 198(1) and 202(4) of the Companies Act
1985 in relation to certain transactions which completed on 8 June 2001 ('the
Transactions'). The entities concerned are:-


    *      Bastion Holdings Limited ('Bastion')

    *      Capricorn Trustees Limited ('Capricorn')

    *      Central Holdings International Limited ('CHIL')

    *      Central Holdings Limited SA ('CH')

    *      DB Investments ('DB Investments')

    *      Dr K-H Ritter, Maitland Trustees Limited and C Andina ('the
           Trustees')

    *      Felton Holdings Limited ('Felton')

    *      Pradine Limited ('Pradine')

    *      Spectre Limited ('Spectre')

The notification stated that as a result of the Transactions:-


 1. DB Investments, Bastion, Capricorn, CHIL, CH, the Trustees, Pradine and
    Spectre ceased to be interested in 60,536,672 Ordinary Shares previously
    registered in the name of De Beers Investments (Proprietary) Limited
    ('DBIPL');

 2. DB Investments, Bastion, Capricorn, CHIL, CH, the Trustees, Pradine and
    Spectre acquired an interest in 2,599,741 Ordinary Shares. All of those
    Ordinary Shares were registered in the name of Centhold Limited;

 3. DB Investments ceased to have an interest in the said 2,599,741 Ordinary
    Shares;

 4. DB Investments, Bastion, Capricorn, CHIL, CH, the Trustees, Pradine and
    Spectre acquired an interest in 1,577,665 Ordinary Shares. All of those
    Ordinary Shares were registered in the name of Kavener Holdings Limited;

 5. DB Investments ceased to have an interest in the said 1,577,665 Ordinary
    Shares;

 6. DB Investments, Bastion, Capricorn, CHIL, CH, the Trustees, Pradine and
    Spectre acquired an interest in 8,945,657 Ordinary Shares. All of those
    Ordinary Shares were registered in the name of Masseter Limited;

 7. DB Investments ceased to have an interest in the said 8,945,657 Ordinary
    Shares;

 8. DB Investments, Bastion, Capricorn, CHIL, CH, the Trustees, Pradine and
    Spectre acquired an interest in 631,643 Ordinary Shares. All of those
    Ordinary Shares were registered in the name of Mazarin Holdings Limited;

 9. DB Investments ceased to have an interest in the said 631,643 Ordinary
    Shares;

10. DB Investments, Bastion, Capricorn, CHIL, CH, the Trustees, Pradine and
    Spectre acquired an interest in 4,795,445 Ordinary Shares. All of those
    Ordinary Shares were registered in the name of Maitland Trust Limited
    ('Maitland Trust');

11. DB Investments, Bastion, Capricorn, CHIL, CH, the Trustees, Pradine and
    Spectre ceased to be interested in the said 4,795,445 Ordinary Shares
    previously registered in the name of Maitland Trust;

12. DB Investments, Bastion, Capricorn, CHIL, CH, the Trustees, Pradine and
    Spectre acquired an interest in 163,212,568 Ordinary Shares. All of those
    Ordinary Shares were registered in the name of Maitland Trust;

13. DB Investments, Bastion, Capricorn, CHIL, CH, the Trustees, Pradine and
    Spectre ceased to be interested in the said 163,212,568 Ordinary Shares
    previously registered in the name of Maitland Trust;

14. DB Investments, Bastion, Capricorn, CHIL, CH, the Trustees, Pradine and
    Spectre acquired an interest in 10,084,017 Ordinary Shares. All of those
    Ordinary Shares were registered in the name of Maitland Trust;

15. DB Investments, Bastion, Capricorn, CHIL, CH, the Trustees, Pradine and
    Spectre ceased to be interested in the said 10,084,017 Ordinary Shares
    previously registered in the name of Maitland Trust;

16. DB Investments and Felton, and Bastion, Capricorn, CHIL, CH, the Trustees,
    Pradine and Spectre ceased to be interested in 44,110,297 Ordinary Shares
    previously registered in the name of DBIPL. DB Investments and Felton
    ceased to have a notifiable interest in Ordinary Shares;

17. DB Investments and Felton, and Baston, Capricorn, CHIL, CH, the Trustees,
    Pradine and Spectre ceased to be interested in 6,710 Ordinary Shares
    previously registered in the name of DBIPL;

18. DB Investments and Felton, and Bastion, Capricorn, CHIL, CH, the Trustees,
    Pradine and Spectre ceased to be interested in 2,327,304 Ordinary Shares
    previously registered in the name of DBIPL;

19. 1,134 of the Ordinary Shares previously registered in the name of DBIPL
    and in which Bastion, Capricorn, CHIL, CH, the Trustees, Pradine and
    Spectre have an interest were registered in the name of Naunton Limited.
    DB Investments and Felton ceased to be interested in those Ordinary
    Shares.

We further received yesterday a notice given on behalf of the entities listed
at the commencement of this letter in relation to a transaction which
completed on 11 June 2001 ('the Second Transaction'). The notification stated
that as a result of the Second Transaction, DB Investments and Felton, and
Bastion, Capricorn, CHIL, CH, the Trustees, Pradine and Spectre ceased to be
interested in 8,000,000 Ordinary Shares previously registered in the name of
DBIPL.

The notification also stated that following the Second Transaction, Bastion,
Capricorn, CHIL, CH, the Trustees, Pradine and Spectre had a notifiable
interest in 63,420,099 Ordinary Shares. Those Ordinary Shares were registered
in the names of the following companies:

The notification also stated that, following the Second Transaction, Felton (a
subsidiary of DB Investments) and DB Investments continued to have an interest
in 1,169,891 Ordinary Shares registered in the name of DBIPL.

Notifications of a change in interest pursuant to section 324(2) of the
Companies Act 1985

We received yesterday a notice given on behalf of Nicholas F Oppenheimer
pursuant to section 324(2) of the Companies Act 1985 in relation to him
ceasing to be interested as a result of the Transactions in 93,226,277
Ordinary Shares and thereby only continuing to be interested in a total of
71,420,099 Ordinary Shares.

We further received yesterday a notice given on behalf of Mr Oppenheimer
pursuant to section 324(2) of the Companies Act 1985 in relation to him
ceasing as a result of the Second Transaction to be interested in 8,000,000
Ordinary Shares and thereby only continuing to be interested in 63,420,099
Ordinary Shares.

Voluntary notifications of a change in interest

We received yesterday a voluntary notification given on behalf of Julian
Ogilvie Thompson. Previously, he had given notice to the Company voluntarily
of an interest in a discretionary family trust which owns an indirect economic
interest in 4.59 per cent of the Ordinary Shares in which Central Holdings
Limited SA has an interest. As a result of the Transactions, Central Holdings
Limited SA ceased to be interested in 93,226,277 Ordinary Shares. As a result
of the Second Transaction giving rise to the changes in Mr Oppenheimer's
interests, Central Holdings Limited SA has ceased to be interested in
8,000,000 Ordinary Shares.

The notification received yesterday stated that following the Transaction and
the Second Transaction, Central Holdings Limited SA has a continued interest
in 63,420,099 Ordinary Shares.
