Notification concerning interests in ordinary shares of US$0.50 each in the
capital of Anglo American plc ('Ordinary Shares')


On 9 November 2001 we today received notice given on behalf of the following
entities under sections 199(2), 203 and 208 of the Act in relation to a
transaction, which completed on 7 November 2001 ('the Transaction').


The entities concerned are:


  * Capricorn Trustees Limited ('Capricorn')

  * Central Holdings International Limited ('CHIL')

  * Central Holdings Limited ('CHL')

  * CHL Investments SA ('CHLISA')

  * E O & Son Holdings Limited ('EOS')

  * Maitland Trustees Limited and Theseus Limited ('the EOS Trustees')

  * Spectre Limited ('Spectre')


Prior to the Transaction, each of Capricorn, CHIL, CHL, EOS, the EOS Trustees
and Spectre had a notifiable interest, within the meaning of sections 199(2),
203 and 208 of the Act, in 81,742,085 Ordinary Shares. Those Ordinary Shares
were registered in the names of the companies listed below:-

Prior to the transaction CHLISA had a notifiable interest within the means of
Section 199(2), 203 and 208 of the Act, in 59,087,843 Ordinary Shares, being
the shares registered in the names of CHL, Debswana Diamond Company
(Proprietary) Limited and Felton Holdings Limited.


As a consequence of the Transaction, on 7 November 2001, Capricorn, CHL, CHIL,
CHLISA, EOS, the EOS Trustees and Spectre ceased to have an interest in
10,000,000 of the Ordinary Shares previously registered in the name of CHL.


Following the Transaction, CHI, Capricorn, CHL, the EOS Trustees, EOS and
Spectre had a notifiable interest in 71,742,085 Ordinary Shares. Those
Ordinary Shares are registered in the names of the companies listed below:-

Following the Transaction, CHLISA had a notifiable interest in 49,087,843
Ordinary Shares, being the shares registered in the names of CHL, Debswana
Diamond Company (Proprietary) Limited and Felton Holdings Limited.


Notification of a change to interests pursuant to Section 324(2) of the
Companies Act 1985 ('the Act')


Notification pursuant to Section 324(2) of the Act, that Nicholas F
Oppenheimer ceased to be interested in 10,000,000 Ordinary Shares on 7
November 2001.


Voluntary notification of a change in interests


Previously, Julian Ogilvie Thompson has given notice to the Company
voluntarily of an interest in discretionary family trusts which owned an
indirect economic interest in 4.59 per cent of the Ordinary Shares in which
Central Holdings Limited was interested at the time of the notice.


Mr Ogilvie Thompson's interest in the Ordinary Shares in which Central
Holdings Limited has an interest is not an interest of which he is obliged to
give notice to the Company.
