Notifications concerning interests in ordinary shares of UD$0.50 each in the
capital of Anglo American plc (the "Company")

We received on 18 March 2002 notice given on behalf of the following entities
pursuant to sections 198(1), 202(3) and 202(4) of the Companies Act 1985 in
relation to the transaction specified below.

The entities concerned are:


  • Capricorn Trustees Limited ("Capricorn") of 9 Columbus Centre, Pelican
    Drive, Road Town, Tortola, British Virgin Islands;

  • Centhold International Limited ("CHI") of 9 Columbus Centre, aforesaid;

  • Central Holdings Limited ("CHL") of 9 rue Sainte Zithe, L-2763 Luxembourg
    (previously of 2 rue Tony Newman, L-2241 Luxembourg);

  • CHL Investments ("CHLI") of 9 rue Sainte Zithe, L-2763 Luxembourg
    (previously of 2 rue Tony Newman, L-2241 Luxembourg), aforesaid;

  • E O & Son Holdings Limited ("EOS") of 9 Columbus Centre, aforesaid;

  • Maitland Trustees Limited and Theseus Limited ("the EOS Trustees") both of
    9 Columbus Centre, aforesaid; and

  • Spectre Limited ("Spectre") of 9 Columbus Centre, aforesaid.


On 10 January 2002, Capricorn, CHI, CHL, EOS, the EOS Trustees and Spectre
advised that they had a notifiable interest in 67,161,588 Ordinary Shares of
US$0.50 each in the capital of the Company ("Ordinary Shares"), registered as
follows:

Also on 10 January 2002, CHLI advised that it had a notifiable interest in
44,507,346 Ordinary Shares, being those specified above as registered in the
names of CHL, Goldman Sachs Security Nominees Limited, Debswana Diamond Company
(Proprietary) Limited and Felton Holdings Limited.

On 18 March 2002 Capricorn, CHI, CHL, EOS, the EOS Trustees, Spectre and CHLI
ceased to have an interest in the 1,169,892 Ordinary Shares previously
registered in the name of Felton Holdings Limited.

On 18 March 2002, Capricorn, CHI, CHL, EOS, the EOS Trustees and Spectre had a
notifiable interest in 65,991,696 Ordinary Shares, registered as follows:

On 18 March 2002, CHLI ceased to have a notifiable interest in Ordinary Shares.

Notifications on behalf of Mr Oppenheimer and Mr Ogilvie Thompson pursuant to
Section 324(2) of the Act

As a consequence of a transaction giving rise to a change in the notifiable
interest of Central Holdings Limited, Mr Oppenheimer ceased to be interested in
1,169,892 Ordinary Shares on 18 March 2002;

As a result of transactions undertaken on 3 June 2001, of which Mr Oppenheimer
became aware on 18 March 2002, the indirect economic interest of 33.33% of a
trust in which the wife of Mr Oppenheimer has an interest changed to 43,840
Ordinary Shares;

As a result of transactions undertaken on or prior to 10 December 2001, of which
Mr Oppenheimer became aware on 18 March 2002, the non-beneficial interest which
Mr Oppenheimer holds as trustee of a charitable trust changed to 917,788
Ordinary Shares.

Voluntary notification of a change in interests

Previously, Mr Ogilvie Thompson has given notice to the Company voluntarily of
an interest in discretionary family trusts which owned an indirect economic
interest in 4.59 per cent of the Ordinary Shares in which Central Holdings
Limited was interested at the time of the notice. As a result of a transaction
giving rise to a change to the notifiable interest of Central Holding Limited,
Mr Ogilvie Thompson has ceased to be interested in 1,169,892 Ordinary Shares.

Mr Ogilvie Thompson's interest in the Ordinary Shares in which Central Holdings
Limited has an interest is not an interest of which he is obliged to give notice
to the Company.
