We received notification on 1 December 2004 that, as at the close of business on
30 November 2004, The Capital Group Companies, Inc. on behalf of its affiliates,
including Capital Research and Management Company, Capital International S.A.,
Capital International, Inc., Capital International Limited and Capital Guardian
Trust Company the interest in the Ordinary Shares of Anglo American plc (the
"Company") had fallen below 3%.
