               ANGLO'S SHARES IN DORBYL PLACED WITH INSTITUTIONS


Anglo American plc announced today that it has placed with institutional
investors its total shareholding, of a little under 20%, in Dorbyl Limited,
for a total consideration of approximately R185m (US$26m).

Leslie Boyd, vice chairman of Anglo American plc and chairman of the Anglo
Industries division said, 'the disposal of our interest in Dorbyl is another
step towards becoming a more focused mining and natural resources company.'

Since the beginning of this year, Anglo American has announced disposals of
assets in excess of US$400m.
