                      DB INVESTMENTS OFFER FOR DE BEERS -

                         RESULTS OF DE BEERS MEETINGS


Anglo American plc wishes to draw shareholders' attention to today's
announcements made by De Beers confirming the approval of all the resolutions
put to the De Beers Linked Unit holders in respect of DB Investments' offer
for De Beers.

As previously outlined, the timetable to completion of the transaction
scheduled for 8 June 2001, subject to the sanctioning of the Scheme on 29 May
2001, is set out below:

Date of High Court of South Africa hearing to 
sanction the Scheme                                   Tuesday, 29 May

Date of suspension of the listings of De Beers 
Linked Units                                          Wednesday, 30 May

Record Date of Scheme                                 Friday, 1 June

Date of termination of listings of De Beers 
Linked Units on, inter alia, the JSE and the LSE      Friday, 1 June

Operative Date of Scheme                              Monday, 4  June

Implementation Date of Scheme                         Friday, 8  June
