GENERAL TEXT AMENDMENT

The following amendments have been made to the TREASURY STOCK announcement released on 21 December 2012 at 10:28am under RNS No 1337U

-     9,506 ordinary shares transferred from treasury shares

-     14,505,120 ordinary shares held in treasury following the transfer

-     1,390,954,633 ordinary shares in issue

All other details remain unchanged.

TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFERS

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that a total of 9,506 ordinary shares were transferred from treasury shares on 20 December 2012 in respect of the Company's share plans.

Following the transfer, Anglo American plc has a total of 14,505,120 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,390,954,633 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
