TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFER

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that on 21 and 22 October 2010 respectively, 12,500 and 10,000 shares were transferred out of the Company's holding of treasury shares in order to satisfy maturing share options under the Company's ESOS plan.

Following the transfers, Anglo American plc has a total of 23,248,238 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,319,684,476 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
