TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFERS

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that 28,278 ordinary shares were transferred from treasury shares on 7^th and 8^th July 2011, in respect of the grant of awards and vesting of awards under the Company's share plans.

Following the transfers, Anglo American plc has a total of 20,357,936 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,322,607,792 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
