TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFERS

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that on 9^th and 10th December 2010 28,900 and 2,000 shares respectively were transferred out of the Company's holding of treasury shares in order to satisfy maturing share options under the Company's ESOS plan.

Following the transfers, Anglo American plc has a total of 22,964,224 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,319,968,490 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
