TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFERS

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that a total of 12,129 ordinary shares were transferred from treasury shares on 16 and 17 January 2012, in respect of the grant of awards and vesting of awards under the Company's share plans.

Following the transfers, Anglo American plc has a total of 19,516,580 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,323,452,319 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
