TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFERS

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4, Anglo American plc announces that a total of 6,659 ordinary shares were transferred from treasury shares on 3^rd and 4^th January 2013 in respect of the Company's share plans.

Following the transfers, Anglo American plc has a total of 14,501,725 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,390,958,028 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
