('Anglo Asian' or 'the Company')
APPOINTMENT OF CHIEF EXECUTIVE
Anglo Asian Mining PLC (AIM: AAZ) the gold and copper development company with
projects in Azerbaijan, confirms that Mr Gordon Lewis has today joined the Board
of Directors as Chief Executive.
Over the course of his career, Mr Lewis has worked as a senior mining executive
on a significant number of projects across a range of emerging markets. He
previously managed Avocet Mining PLC's Indonesian operations, including taking
the North Lanut gold mine from in-fill drilling through to production and
overseeing the start up of Malaysia's largest gold mine. He has also run various
mining operations for RTZ and, more recently, was Chief Operating Officer of
Alexander Mining PLC.
Mr Lewis is a Member of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and
holds a First Class Mine Manager's Certificate, South Australia.
The Board believes that Mr Lewis's experience is a tremendous asset for the
Company and will help it to achieve its stated goals. His appointment is a
continuation of the Company's strategy of recruiting to the Board high-quality
individuals with in-depth experience of the mining sector and he will initially
be located in Azerbaijan. Mr Charles Hancock will step down from the Chief
Executive role but remain on the Board as a non executive director.
Mr Mascall, the Chairman of the Company, commented, 'We are very excited that
Gordon has agreed to join and to strengthen the Board further. His previous
operational experience will provide a further substantial impetus to the
development of Anglo Asian's projects in Azerbaijan. I would also like to thank
Charles for his commitment to the Company over the past year and look forward to
his continuing contribution as a non executive director.'
Save as disclosed below, there is nothing further to disclose in relation to the
appointment of Mr Gordon Vernon Lewis, aged 57, under schedule two, paragraph
(g) of the AIM Rules:

As part Mr Lewis's employment arrangements with Anglo Asian, he has been awarded
options over 1,487,577 Ordinary Shares of 1p each at an option price of 42.5p
per share. The options vest in three equal instalments on 12, 24 and 36 months
respectively after the date of employment, being 1st July 2006.
