                               Holding in Company

Antofagasta PLC ('the Company') received notification on 25 April 2005 pursuant
to the provisions of Section 198 of the Companies Act 1985 that Genesis
Investment Management , Genesis Fund Managers, and Genesis Asset Managers have
reduced their interest in the Company to a total of 3,057,229 ordinary shares of
5p, representing 1.55% of the ordinary issued share capital of the Company.
