London:  19 August 2005:-  Antofagasta plc announces with regret that Mr.
Andronico Luksic A., Honorary President of Antofagasta, died yesterday in Chile.
Mr. Luksic, aged 78, was Chairman of Antofagasta plc from 1982 until his
retirement from the Board in November 2004.
