         Correction to Explanation of Special Business contained in the
                  2005 Annual Report and Financial Statements


London, 22 May 2006


Antofagasta plc today will post a letter to shareholders correcting in one
respect the Explanation of Special Business section of the 2005 Annual Report
and Financial Statements. The correction relates to the description of one of
the articles of the revised new articles of association which are proposed for
adoption at the Annual General Meeting and the Class Meetings to be held on 14
June 2006.


Two copies of this letter have been submitted to the UK Listing Authority and
will shortly be available for inspection at the UK Listing Authority's Document
Viewing Facility, which is situated at Financial Services Authority, 25 The
North Colonnade, London E14 5HS. The letter will also be available on the
Company's website at www.antofagasta.co.uk.
