Update on Castlemaine Licence Block

The Directors of Connemara, the AIM listed Irish zinc explorer are pleased to report on a detailed exploration programme on its' Castlemaine Licence block in County Kerry. The work focused on a region approximately 1km to the north of the village of Castlemaine, in the area around the historic Meanus / Annagh Mine that was mined for silver / lead in the latter part of the 18th Century. The Connemara work programme consisted of geological mapping and prospecting followed up with geophysical surveying. The results of the geophysical surveying are being used to define a geological and structural model for the area. The mapping / prospecting was carried out to ascertain the nature and style of the recorded sulphide mineralisation. Large boulders of high grade material were found in the region around the old working, with one particularly high grade sample discovered approximately 400m to the west. This sample was analysed at the ASA OMAC laboratory in Loughrea Co. Galway and returned values of:

This result is clear evidence that there are significant quantities of zinc contained in this deposit but in the 18th Century zinc was viewed as a waste mineral and was not mined.

Modelling of the Meanus / Annagh deposit indicates that it is strongly analogous to the Kilbreckin, Co. Clare, high grade massive sulphide occurrence discovered in 2007 and currently being aggressively explored by Lundin Mining. In both areas there was historic mining of silver / lead from veins, the host is reef Limestone, the vein mineralisation is found close to the top of the Reef and the veins have a calcite gangue. At Kilbreckin in Co. Clare a large lens of high grade mineralisation has been discovered by drilling down to the base of the Reef, a Castlemaine similar target remains to be tested.

The exploration of this highly prospective target is ongoing. A detailed geophysical survey will take place in the near future. A programme of diamond drilling will then be designed to intersect the untested base of Reef target zone.

John Teeling, Chairman, commented: 'Mining lore has it that the best place to find a mine is where there was a mine. So it is with Castlemaine. It is very early days but the work is very encouraging'.

Connemara is a substantial licence holder in Ireland where the focus is on zinc/lead. In conjunction currently with TeckCominco, they are exploring the 2007 Stonepark, Co. Limerick zinc discovery which is adjacent to the Xstrata / Minco Pallas Green discovery. On the Cavan / Meath border, Connemara drilling has identified a wide area of low grade zinc/lead mineralisation.

This release has been approved by Graham Reid, P. Geo., Director BRG Technical Services, consultants to Connemara. Mr. Reid has 30 years mineral exploration and evaluation experience.
