Anite Group plc
AGM Statement & Trading Update
At its Annual General Meeting to be held later today, Clay Brendish, the
Chairman of Anite Group plc ('Anite' or 'the Group'), the worldwide IT solutions
and services company, will make the following comments:
Current trading
'The Group's performance in the year to date has been in line with our overall
expectations.
As expected, we have continued our investment in growth opportunities driven by
market demand, especially in Telecoms. As previously indicated the planned
increase in development investment will have the effect of tempering profit
growth on rising revenues in both the Telecoms and Travel divisions, however we
anticipate the benefits of this investment coming through next year. Telecoms
and Travel continue to see excellent new business pipelines, with Travel's order
book close to double the level at the same time last year. In Public Sector,
growth in SIS (secure information solutions) is helping to mitigate weakness of
demand in local government, and the business will benefit from the elimination
of the losses on the SoV contract and a reduction in Pericles losses.
As in previous years, the Group's trading will be weighted towards the second
half. Following the SoV settlement, Anite will report its results solely on a
post-utilisation of contract provisions basis.
As anticipated, net funds in the first half have been impacted by the continuing
share buy back (£0.6m), the State Of Victoria settlement and Australian
restructuring costs, totaling £10.0m, the settlement of liabilities in respect
of a major portion of the non-operating property provision at a cost of £2.1m,
as well as the final earnout payment of £0.5m.
Pericles
Progress on implementations and provision utilisation continues in line with
expectations. As a result our risk profile continues to reduce along with
losses, although a small number of customers may require settlements. There is
one further software release due by the calendar year end, with the most recent
release (since the preliminary results in July) being well received. We also
have some remaining development obligations to the existing customer base. As a
result, provisions carried forward are adequate but under continual review.
Conclusion
We will continue to invest in growth opportunities during the current financial
year, supported by much improved quality of earnings and a strong balance sheet.
The successful settlement of the troubled SoV contract is enabling management to
focus wholly on Anite's core business and growth strategy.
Overall, we have had a satisfactory start to the current financial year and
anticipate making further progress.'
