                   Notification of Major Interests in Shares

The Company has today been advised by Artemis Investment Management Limited
('Artemis') that Artemis and certain of its investment clients, have a
notifiable interest of 36,860,683 ordinary shares of 10p each in the Company.
This interest is notifiable under Section 198 of the Companies Act 1985 and
represents 10.50% of the Companies issued share capital (351,012,824 ordinary
shares).

It has been established that the last notification to be received by the Company
was in November 2004 when it was reported that the holding by Artemis in the
Company was 22.7m shares representing 6.48% of the Company's issued share
capital. Artemis have confirmed that they have made further notifications to the
Company in 2005 but that these notifications were sent to an incorrect address.
