Anite Group plc
Interim Management Statement
Anite Group plc ('Anite' or 'the Group'), the international software and
solutions company, today announces its first Interim Management Statement as
required by the FSA's Disclosure and Transparency rules. The financial
commentary covers the first four months of the Group's current financial year,
from 1 May to 31 August 2007.
The period has been characterised by Anite's customary seasonality and slow
start to the financial year. Profitability and order intake as a whole tend to
be weighted to the latter weeks of the half year periods, reflecting normal
trading patterns in our businesses, especially Wireless. Last year the first
half represented around 37% of Group operating profits (continuing businesses
stated before share based payments and amortisation of acquired intangible
assets) and the second half bias is likely to be more exaggerated this year.
Excluding the benefit of a good first time contribution from Nemo, Group
profitability and revenues for the period were slightly below last year, in part
reflecting the planned increase in development spending in the Wireless
division. Across the divisions, Wireless traded slightly below the Board's
expectations reflecting the current tightness in some customers' budgets. Travel
was comfortably ahead of expectations. In Public Sector, the continued
improvement in Pericles has enabled Local Government to trade in line with our
expectations. SIS has had a slow start to the year as a result of changing
buying patterns in our customers. Overall, order intake is slightly down on the
same period last year, albeit against a very strong comparative period for
Travel.
There has been no significant change in the Group's financial position in the
period, which remains robust. In light of this, the Board is seeking shareholder
approval at the Group's AGM to be held on 3 October 2007 to renew its authority
to buy back Anite shares and may, from time to time, utilise this authority by
buying shares in the market as it deems appropriate.
Overall, the Group has had a characteristically slow but satisfactory start to
the financial year and the Board remains cautiously optimistic about Anite's
progress and prospects for the year as a whole.
A trading update for the six months ending 31 October 2007 will be issued in
late-November.
Commenting, Steve Rowley, Anite's Chief Executive said:
'Anite's ambition is to be the leading supplier of industry-specific IT
solutions in the sectors in which it operates. We continue to make significant
progress in implementing our strategy to achieve this objective, through a
combination of investment in our products, acquisitions to strengthen our
position and disposals to sharpen our focus.'
