On 31st May 2000 it was announced that Garry Weston was retiring as Chairman
of Associated British Foods, the international food, ingredients and retail
group, and that Harry Bailey was appointed Chairman.

Due to his continuing poor health, Mr. Weston has decided not to seek
re-election to the Board at the company's annual general meeting on 15th
December 2000.
