AMLIN AGREES TERMS FOR ADDITIONAL CAPITAL
Amlin plc, the leading Lloyd's insurer, announced today that it has reached
agreement in principle with State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company
(' State Farm'), an existing shareholder, for the provision of a credit
facility, on normal commercial terms, of up to £100 million to support its
underwriting for the 2002 Lloyd's year of account. A further announcement will
be made once legal documentation has been completed.
Amlin has announced its intention to increase the capacity of its Syndicate
2001 by 39% to £800 million for the 2002 Lloyd's year of account. Amlin's
existing financing, combined with this facility, will enable it to underwrite
its current 70% share of this amount and up to a further 5% of Syndicate
2001's capacity should this become available.
Charles Philipps, Amlin's Chief Executive said 'We are extremely pleased that
State Farm, one of our major shareholders, is supporting us in this way. We
have said consistently that we would grow our business into a hardening market
and now we have the capital support to achieve our goals.'
