ASTRAZENECA PLC


The Board of AstraZeneca PLC announces the appointment of David R Brennan as
Chief Executive with effect from 1 January 2006 upon the retirement at that time
of Sir Tom McKillop.

David Brennan is an Executive Director of AstraZeneca PLC and Executive Vice
President, North America, responsible for the Company's business in the US and
Canada.

Louis Schweitzer, Chairman of AstraZeneca PLC, said: 'The Board's appointment of
David Brennan is the outcome of a rigorous selection process from a very strong
list of candidates.  David has over 30 years' experience in the pharmaceutical
industry and has played an important part in the development of AstraZeneca.
With his fine leadership qualities and a strong and talented management team,
the Board is confident that the company will continue to prosper'.
