                    REPURCHASE OF SHARES IN ASTRAZENECA PLC


AstraZeneca PLC announced that on 8 August 2007, it purchased for cancellation
828,826 ordinary shares of AstraZeneca PLC at a price of 2499 pence per share.

Some of these shares were purchased under the terms of the previously announced
irrevocable, non-discretionary share repurchase programme for the period 2 July
2007 to 31 October 2007.

Upon the cancellation of these shares, the number of shares in issue will be
1,488,158,061.
