REPURCHASE OF SHARES IN ASTRAZENECA PLC


Further to the announcement of its close period share repurchase programme,
AstraZeneca PLC announced that under the terms of that programme it purchased
for cancellation 376,597 ordinary shares of AstraZeneca PLC at a price of 3490
pence per share on 24 October 2006. Upon the cancellation of these shares, the
number of shares in issue will be 1,544,729,908.
