BRITISH EMPIRE SECURITIES AND GENERAL TRUST PLC ('Company')

Listing Rule 15.5.1(4) - Transactions in a Close Period

In accordance with Listing Rule 15.5.1(4), the Company confirms that all inside information known to the Directors and Company up to the date of this announcement has been notified to a Regulated Information Service ('RIS').

As a result of the above the Company hereby takes relief from the provisions of the Model Code in respect of dealings by Directors, persons discharging managerial responsibilities, and dealings in its own securities during the close period which commenced on 1 April 2009.

The Company confirms that should any of the Directors or the Company come into possession of any unpublished inside information, no dealings by Directors, persons discharging managerial responsibilities or by the Company in its own securities shall be undertaken unless and until the relevant inside information has been notified to a RIS.
