BRITISH EMPIRE SECURITIES AND GENERAL TRUST PLC

Declaration of Dividend

British Empire Securities and General Trust plc announces that the Directors have today declared a final ordinary dividend in an amount of 4.00p per Ordinary Share, and a special dividend in an amount of 1.50p per Ordinary Share for the year to 30 September 2008.  Both dividends are subject to approval by Shareholders at the Annual General Meeting of the Company to be held on 18 December 2008.

If approved, the dividends will be paid on 9 January 2009 to Shareholders on the Register of Members at 12 December 2008 (ex-dividend 10 December 2008).

The Company's results for the year to 30 September 2008 will be issued shortly.
